Mission of the PTO
To promote the welfare of children in their School, homes and community. Promote close relations between the School, the home, and the District so that the parents, teachers and administrators may cooperate effectively in the education of children.
The Thomas Fitzwater PTO is a non-profit, non-commercial organization consisting of parents/guardians and faculty /staff members of Thomas Fitzwater Elementary School. The purpose is to promote the welfare of children in their school, homes and community, and to promote close relations between the school, home and the school district so teachers, parents, and administrators may cooperate effectively in the education of each child.
The PTO board consists of the following officers: Two co-presidents, two co-vice presidents, two co-treasurers, two co-secretaries and executive members-at-large. Each officer has his/her own responsibilities, but basically officers may run PTO meetings, make and implement budgets, and coordinate and oversee PTO committees. Members of the PTO, including parents, school faculty and staff, are invited to PTO meetings and have the opportunity to vote on matters before the Board.
PTO meetings are held in the cafeteria at Thomas Fitzwater. Meetings are scheduled either during the day or in the evening so that everyone has an opportunity to attend. PTO meeting dates are shown on the Upper Dublin School District calendar, and are listed in the Cheetah Chat, list serv and on this website here. Meetings generally run for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. All members of the Thomas Fitzwater community are encouraged to attend.
All PTO meetings have a printed agenda. At each meeting, the minutes from the previous meeting are approved, treasurer reports are reviewed, and new and old PTO business is discussed. Standing committee reports are received at each meeting. There is also a Principal’s report each month, and often a guest from the School or District is invited to speak on topics of interest to PTO members.
